Introduce yourself to the Meet the GiMP! community. Tell us who you are, where you are from, what software you use and anything else you would like to share
My name is Daniel Baer ( www.DanielBaer.com) and I grew up and live in Canada. I am a Network Administrator ("computer guy") and I also enjoy photography. I would like to be a Web Developer if I ever grow up. I use digiKam, GIMP, UFRaw, KRename, and ExifTool to organize and process my photos. I have recently begun learning to use Inkscape for my more graphical work.
After seeing Rolf include a picture in one of his posts ( http://forum.meetthegimp.org/index.php/topic,5.0.html) I had the idea that it would be nice to include a picture of one's self in one's introduction post. Me and my wife Rachel : )

Hello MTG viewers! I'm eBrnd (my actual name is Bernd) from Germany. I've been using GIMP for a few years now, but only for graphics design. I think it was one of the first Open Source programs I really used and not just tried, when I got bored of Paint Shop Pro 4 (which I had from a magazine CD) and my 30 days trial of PSP 6 had expired. That's more than five years ago, and now I'm a full-time Linux geek. When I got my iPod, I looked for podcasts about ... well, everything, and that's how I found meetthegimp. Even though I had been using GIMP for quite some time now, I learned a lot of things from meetthegimp, especially how the stuff I've been doing anyway can be done easier Also, meetthegimp sparked my interest photography, and I actually bought a DSLR last month to be able to take some good pictures for GIMPing. And now I'm kind of interested in photography too...

Hi you two, hi Rolf! I am Mathias (from Germany as well), actually living in Norway. This country is amazing - it just gave me the last shoot to fall from the cliffs into this never releasing field of photography. I had to buy a DSLR, I had to learn post processing, I had to learn all basics and approaches to this neat hobby. And there I am. I never used PS, started to learn with Gimp and will remain with this great app. Not least because of this nice podcast that really helped a lot. If you want to see some impressions of Norway, some post processed images too, visit my site: http://mathias.lindner.de.vu. It's in German but as long as you find the "Fotos" link you'll be fine. I am always happy about comments, criticisms, ratings or simply a nice greeting in the guestbook. Hope to see this forum growing

I'm Jeff from Detroit, Michigan, USA. I started out using photoshop 6, I upgraded to photoshop 7. Really I got tired of upgrading and decided to learn Gimp. I mostly process my amature photos so MTG has really helped me along. I also got into using a DSLR after my kodak p&s was stolen, I decided to get a DSLR. I got a Nikon D40. great little camera. Well I had an old Vivitar285hv that I used with my kodak thru a pc cord. That was my whole idea behind getting a dslr, so it had the hot shoe. Then I wanted to find out (after I bought the camera) if I could even use it in the hot shoe.... That led me to the strobist group in flickr, and learning about off camera flash. He is the one that said Gimp is a good alternative to ps. So here I am, immersed into photography and processing.. hehe.

I am RonH, and I am from America. me, being "wilson" I use a Kodak ZD710 and my perferred subjects are flowers, details with "character" and Interesting angles. I believe that the work in gimp is like the work in the darkroom - it's a part of the creative process and no amount of dark room work in "art" photography is too much. "Journalism" photography is a different matter. Hi! I am ronh at 23hq.com

A nice place to start posting. I'm an old photographer who enjoyed my own color lab and hobby in the early 70's. Babies, weddings, aerial photography (pilot) and small time commercial work fed the beast. What fun this digital lab is! I remember the double exposures for a spooky effect and the cutting out of prints to mask and re shoot on the enlarger to make fun photos like the one with the magic glass frame that can seen through to show the other side of the subject. It's all so much simpler now! Snow now on the top of my old gray head. The enlarger, the chemistry, the acrid smell of fixer, and color is gone from my hair and so is the stain from my fingers. I didn't like using gloves. My new printer scans negatives, what a boon. Now old negatives and photos are creeping, crawling out of my poorly organized dusty boxes and my family and fun photos are being met with a sigh, discovered in poorer focus than what I remember they were taken. I'm now looking for retirement fun. Just switched from XP to Mac and love it. I crave sharp focus and high resolution that allows room to find face in a small dark corner or a better picture with an improved crop. I always hope for enough detail to print large but now it seems web sized photos are much more useful and used. I'm shopping for a camera to step up from my pocket SD1100 and my Coolpix 990, learning about layers and sweet spot and let 4 SLRs from the 80's sleep in the closet. On to posting, reading, learning, and play. Thank you Rolf, Thank you for teaching. Thank you Teacher. Dan

Hi all,
My name is Michael. I am from Holland, OH, USA. I have no photographic or artistic skills, but I enjoy taking pictures and trying to learn things I can't do well. I switched from 15 years of windows to mac about two years ago, and I have discovered the joy of having a unix based operating system. I love open source. I love finding apps. I love using apps. I love contributing to apps. I found Gimp about a year ago, and then I found MTG and actually started using Gimp. Thank you Rolf.
I have an Olympus E-300 DSLR. A great, low priced DSLR for people who want to try to be creative without spending a lot to find out they are not. I use Gimp, Hugin, pixelmator, iPhoto, and just started experimenting with qtpfsgui (I have no idea what I am doing).
Well friends, if you can get me to become even an amateur photographer with even the small sense of skill, you will have accomplished a great feat. Good luck.

Hello fellow MTGers , I am George and if I'm parked I call Portland Oregon home , But most of the time I wander the western part of the US in a big truck. I stumbled on Gimp some time back but grasped on the basic functions and never did much post processing as one could tell from my online gallery , but one of the best finds was MTG , and now in my down time, much need to be done ( post processing ) . Rolf keep up the good work on the podcast !

Hi, my name is andreas and i live in the near of mainz, germany. if i was a poor student and i take a first look at gimp more then 10 years ago. now i am using it under win xp prof. often i take the EOS 400D of my wife to "click" a little bit with no deep background how to make a good foto. but i hope, in the future i can make some good shots. i found MTG after a while searching tools to edit cr2-files. i am working as an webmaster of a regional newspaper and in my sparetime i play with my daughter. MTG is one of the greatest things i've found last year. but i dont have so much time to reproduce every show with own images... sometimes i wish i had a little script with tipps, what to do in wich steps... but it is a great show. and it will be better every week. the show with phillip was a great thing for my daughter (5)... she missed only the earth and some meteors... she was very delighted with the result... Rolf... u are a good teacher i mean and i can learn not only "gimping" than also a little bit english ... greets from rheinhessen Andreas

Hi
I'm Pat, I'm from just outside Washington, DC. I've used PaintShopPro to do minor tweaks, but nothing like Rolf does with MTG. So its cool.
I used to do a lot of work with film. I've got a now 38 year old Nikon F (ftn) that I bought new, and I shot a huge amount of film through it. I did my own darkroom work with it, 99% B/W, and a little color.

My name is Seth, and I am an American living in Scotland. I started using GIMP mainly to create artistic ambigrams, but I have brached out to do some basic photo retouching (family snapshot-level stuff) as well as some simple web graphic design. I love the podcast, and have nearly finished watching all the back episodes. I am looking foward to seeing Rolf's take on v2.6 - very cool stuff indeed.

Hi all! I haven't been very active in this forum so far, but I am a regular viewer of MTG, I really enjoy the show and I have learned a lot of things from it. I am Katrin and live together with my husband and my son in the wild east of Germany ;-) I own a Canon EOS 350D, my PC runs Kubuntu and I mainly use Digikam and Gimp for managing and processing my photos. If you to "see" something more, check my blog or my flickr stream. It's really amazing to see so many people from different countries here!

Hi all heres a lazy wannabe artist from Finland (im 26 years old and unemployed ) I switched to Linux a few weeks ago, when my windows computers became infected with some terrible worm that i couldn't get rid off. Haven't looked back since. I started to learn Gimp seriously today (i tried Gimp like 7 or 8 years ago and it was horrible back then) been watching Meet the Gimp episodes half of last night a few years old photo of me, but i don't think i have changed that much.. i just have less beard now, heh, i might look now even younger than back then!
