I was of the idea that winzip (or similar) could open it! Sorry!

I dont' know any program for win; but if you use vlc, where is an option in the preferences:
Preferences -> Video -> Subtitles/OSD -> Use subtitle file.

VLC is available for Windows as well. MPlayer is also able to use subtitles. BSplayer too. Don't know about Windows Media Player.

In my little experience, (I did some TV Series translations for the Italian community), they are crap! You have to train them (a lot), and the result is often not accurate at all!
Beside that, I saved 40 euro for the DS game "Pratice English"!

Well, I've download VLC mediaplayer and yes I got the subtitles.
Then I've opened the SRT file with openoffice and translated the first sentences in dutch.
It worked. My offer will be to translate episode 1 in dutch.
I plan to deliver this next week. I use the english file as start point.

I would like to contribute ../ENGLISH/

 It would be good to have a point of contact/manager for Format, Episodes being worked on, by who? date started,,, etc. to manage proficiency and continuity and productivity.
All this possibly posted somewhere and current.   
Managing may not be as time consuming but it would be a tremendous help.

Managing a file list of episodes with signed on translator/volunteers, language used, episode, date of start, completions per language.   Well, that's a bit of what seems needed.

I started the first episode to see what it feels like to transcribe.
About the first few minutes anyway.. then back scanned the blogs to see formats taking off and being suggested..

I really need help transcribing. I'm working on the lessons 4 and 5.

I am presently transcribing episode 17 to English text..
(Jumping to avoid to a probable untranscribed episode.)

Text lines so far but, educated myself on format.. SRT files..etc.  I don't have timestamps as auto copy paste like some players seem to allow  (according to blogs).. Just VLC or QT here for now.. Perhaps  a MAC user might advise or email.   Or you might tell if this also manual for you also.

It would be good if there were a managed account log of the Transcription Groups progress for proficiency, first to avoid redundant efforts and next to provide an availability list.  Dont you think?

I'm using a simple text editor (vi  ) but I'm not so crazy to doing everything with it!

I 100% agree! But, in my opinion, we are not in a hurry for that! Right now, the shows are so much, and we ("worker slaves"    ) are so few, that we don't need to synch us!

In the future I think we need a something like repository: rapidshare is not the right solution!
But we have time to think about it!

Why don't you add them into the table linked at the image used (dowload additional files)?

Yes..  attach! Absolutely..

I will get a raw text first and then bang it out on a word processor to put in line time control numeration format holders,  then replace the generic #'s for real time (stamp) control #'s. 
 Right now I calculate about 5 hours for 30 min of video to translate to RAW text.  No clue how long the numeration process will take.

I have learned, obviously, "thefree" has put in substantial effort thus far.
