...and the worst is to use a Java applet for your menu!
I wrote applets professionally back in 97/98. I had forgotten about them. Does anyone still use them? You are right, they are evil.

The idea was right, and you could do then what all the RIA stuff can just do now, but the installation and cross browser support was evil.

Well, I had been wanting to start a photography website, all the posts here got me piqued! So now I have a domain and host. Loaded Webpress already, and working on my site! I had a site years ago, only html, so CSS is all new to me. Wow! Lots to learn, and lots to do!! Anything that I pick up, I'll be glad to help out! Also I've been reading some posts on using Gimp for Wordpress design. I'll see what I can do with that. I know Gimp has no "built in" coding, but perhaps we can learn together....

If it is working.... my scanty beginnings... http://5jphoto.com

Well, there is lots to learn for web design. Currently using Kompozer that I found in ubuntu. I moved my wordpress blog to another directory so I can still access it. Kompozer so far seems cool! does anyone have critics of it? there are some online tutorials for creating website that I'm using. I tried using Quanta plus, but it is all so confusing...

Never tried Kompozer but I use Bluefish.
BTW: If you understand German or French you should check out http://www.selfhtml.org/. It's amazing, everything you can think about web design is in there - HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, Perl, CGI, JavaScript, ...
