I installed the windows version (under XP, admittedly), no problem... Have you updated your GTK+ version?

EDIT:   I am looking at your installation, but it looks normal.  If you open a JPG and chnage something, does the File > Save option appear?

in the windows loader it GTK is included so yes " If you open a JPG and chnage something, does the File > Save option appear?" ......
no , if I close the program it will ask what to save with no other options. I reloaded the pre- release un-stable it works fine...

well this was a install from hell , damn I HATE windows and vista but still missing drivers for linux for this box... but, I un-installed 2.6.1 and searched the drive  for anything gimp and did clean out some config settings I had missed . ran a reg-cleaner ,rebooted , downloaded 2.6.1 win , pulled the net cable and shut off zone alarm and ran the install , and goodness it came up with the new splash screen , it looks to be all here
thanks ghk Shocked
